Call to Worship - Psalm 46:1-10

(view video of the reading below.)

"Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul!
I will praise the LORD as long as I live;
I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.
Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.
When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish.
Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God,
who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever;
who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry.
The LORD sets the prisoners free; the LORD opens the eyes of the blind.
The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous.
The LORD watches over the sojourners; He upholds the widow and the fatherless,
but the way of the wicked He brings to ruin. The LORD will reign forever,
your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the LORD!

Songs of Praise & Adoration

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty  -  (audio link)

(verse 1)
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near.
Join me in glad adoration!

(verse 2)
Praise to the Lord, who o'er all things so wondrously reigneth,
Shelters thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth!
Hast Thou not seen how thy desires e’er have been
Granted in what He ordaineth?

(verse 3)
Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee.
Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee.
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,
If with His love He befriend thee.

(verse 4)
Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore Him!
All that hath life and breath,
come now with praises before Him.
Let the Amen sound from His people again,
Gladly forever adore Him.

10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord) -  (audio link)

(chorus)
Bless the Lord O my soul, O my soul,
Worship His holy name.
Sing like never before, O my soul,
I'll worship Your holy name.

(verse 1)
The sun comes up it's a new day dawning.
It's time to sing Your song again.
Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me,
Let me be singing when the evening comes.

(verse 2)
You're rich in love and You're slow to anger,
Your name is great and Your heart is kind.
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find.

(verse 3)
And on that day when my strength is failing,
The end draws near and my time has come,
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore.

Confession

Scripture Reading: Psalm 40:1-5

I waited patiently for the LORD; He inclined to me and heard my cry.
He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD.
Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust,
who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!
You have multiplied, O LORD my God,
Your wondrous deeds and Your thoughts toward us; none can compare with You!
I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.

Rock of Ages  -  (audio link)

(verse 1)
Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee.
Let the water and the blood, from Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure, save from wrath and make me pure.

(verse 2)
Not the labor of my hands can fulfill Thy law's demands.
Could my zeal no respite know, could my tears forever flow,
All for sin could not atone, Thou must save and Thou alone.

(verse 3)
Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to Thy cross I cling.
Naked come to Thee for dress, helpless look to Thee for grace.
Foul, I to the fountain fly, wash me Savior or I die.

(verse 4)
While I draw this fleeting breath, when my eyes shall close in death,
When I soar to worlds unknown, see Thee on Thy judgement throne,
Rock of Ages cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee.

Praying for One Another

Colossians 1:9-14 says, “And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Let’s go to the Lord together in prayer:

  • Using Colossians 1:9-14 as a guide, pray for those in your own family and in our church family that we would “walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge and joy of God.”
  • Thank God for the glorious truth that “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.”
  • Continue to pray for the physical and financial needs of others in our church family.
  • Continue to pray for God to show us, by His Spirit how we can best show the love of Christ to our family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers during this time.
  • Continue to pray for the health, physical, and financial needs of our missionary families.
  • Continue to pray for Pastor Weyland, Jesse, and our elders as they make decisions on how to best lead and serve our congregation.
  • Continue to pray that God would give wisdom and guidance to our national, state, and local government leaders as they make decisions on ways to best reopen our nation and economy.

Song of Hope

The Power of the Cross  -  (audio link)

(verse 1)
Oh to see the dawn of the darkest day,
Christ on the road to Calvary.
Tried by sinful men, torn and beaten then
Nailed to a cross of wood.

(chorus)
This the power of the cross,
Christ became sin for us,
Took the blame, bore the wrath,
We stand forgiven at the cross.

(verse 2)
Oh to see the pain written on Your face,
Bearing the awesome weight of sin.
Every bitter thought, every evil deed
Crowning Your bloodstained brow.

(verse 3)
Now the daylight flees, now the ground beneath
Quakes as it's Maker bows His head.
Curtain torn in two, dead are raised to life,
Finished! The victory cry.

(verse 4)
Oh to see my name written in the wounds,
For through Your suffering I am free.
Death is crushed to death; life is mine to live,
Won through Your selfless love.

(chorus)
This the power of the cross,
Son of God, slain for us.
What a love! What a cost!
We stand forgiven at the cross.
